PART-TIME DEPUTY CLERK OF COURT

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS:

The city of Oakwood is recruiting for a part-time Deputy Clerk position in the Oakwood Municipal Court.

Work Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, with the potential for additional hours to cover other shifts and duties as circumstances warrant.

This position is primarily responsible for data processing, reporting and recording duties and clerical activities in the Oakwood Municipal Court. This includes accepting filings, preparing new cases and assigning case numbers, submitting data to other government agencies, accepting and applying payments to individual cases, scheduling pre-trial and trial dates, finalizing cases in CMS and verifying accuracy of all data, preparing entries for the Judge, preparing warrants, and other miscellaneous clerical duties.

The Deputy Clerk maintains the court’s Traffic Intervention Program, which involves reviewing, researching, and preparing information to educate citizens on how to regain a valid Ohio driver’s license. The Deputy Clerk prepares the courtroom and court files for court date, assists the Judge in the courtroom on court days, and prepares Judge Entries during hearings, and then monitors and reviews defendant’s reporting orders for the court.

Applicants must:

  • have a High School Diploma/GED, AND
  • have a valid driver’s license, AND
  • have work experience including previous administrative work, OR
  • any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

The position requires knowledge of court processes, procedures, policies, legal documents, laws, and other legal factors pertaining to the court; skill in general computer operations, specifically Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) and other related software programs; the ability to perform basic accounting. Accuracy in all work is important.

The successful applicant will be able to maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor working in a fast paced environment, and be able to communicate effectively with the public and all levels of management.

COMPENSATION:

Current pay range is $18.15 – $25.53 per hour.  Entry rate is contingent upon the applicant’s skills, knowledge and abilities. Benefits offered for this position include vacation, sick leave and paid holidays, as well as membership in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
