UTILITY FOREMAN

The City of Oakwood is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Utility Foreman in the Public Works Department. This position manages daily field operations, supervises staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and maintains infrastructure to provide safe and reliable water distribution and wastewater collection services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of the City’s water distribution system, including water mains, valves, hydrants, booster stations, and meters.
  • Supervise the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s sanitary sewer collection system, including collection lines, manholes, and lift stations.
  • Plan work schedules, assign tasks, and determine materials, labor, and equipment needed for projects.
  • Respond to emergencies such as water main breaks, sewer backups, and other utility disruptions.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff involved in water distribution and sanitary sewer collection.
  • Develop and manage the water and sewer department’s annual operating budget; initiate and approve purchase orders.
  • Manage purchasing, bidding, and expenditure tracking for materials and supplies related to distribution and collection systems.
  • Collect and record operational data, including system readings, maintenance logs, and repair activities.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records required for regulatory compliance and internal management.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems, electrical and mechanical systems, and related control equipment.
  • After regular work hours, participate in a rotational on-call schedule to respond to emergencies, including but not limited to water main breaks, sewer backups, snow removal, street repairs, storm damage, and other utility system issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in water distribution and sanitary sewer collections.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ohio Class I (or higher) Water Distribution Certification.
  • Ohio Class II Wastewater Collection Certification.
  • Backflow Certification.
  • Ohio Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement.

COMPENSATION:

The current pay range is $ 95,000 – $115,929 annually, depending on qualifications and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including, but not limited to, health and dental insurance, vision coverage, life insurance, paid leave, and enrollment in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS) pension program.
