WATER & SEWER TECHNICIAN

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS:

The city of Oakwood is currently accepting applications for Water & Sewer Technician in the Public Works Department. Primary responsibilities include performing varied manual and semi-skilled maintenance and equipment operations duties involving flushing and otherwise cleaning sewers, and in repairing manholes and sewer lines.

The Water & Sewer Technician also builds, cleans, and unclogs catch basins; assists in such tasks as laying and repairing sewer and water lines; rebuilds storm sewer inlets, lines, and sanitary sewer manholes; repairs water main line and service breaks. The position instructs General Service Workers in the causes of sewer line stoppages and proper cleaning and remedial procedures; locates and marks utilities; digs ditches, hoists materials, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe.

As part of the Public Works team, the Water & Sewer Technician removes snow and ice from roadways and walkways; collects limbs and debris on streets.

The position will act as a back-up to the water treatment plant operator on a limited basis, which includes responsibilities such as routine inspection, maintenance and repair of water plant equipment and facilities, making equipment and pump adjustments as needed; collecting samples and performing water tests, maintaining daily records and logs.

Applicants must:

  • have two or more years of experience in wastewater collections; and
  • maintain an Ohio EPA Class I (or higher) Wastewater Collection Certification at time of hire; and
  • have the ability to obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Water Distribution Certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire; and
  • maintain a valid driver’s license and class B CDL with tanker endorsement; and
  • be physically capable of performing manual labor related to maintenance and repairs of the water distribution system and sanitary sewer system, be able to work/stand for extended periods, and be able to tolerate all types of weather conditions.

Please provide copies of required Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Collection Certification, as well as any other additional licenses and certifications (wastewater, water supply, applicator, arborist, etc.).

Work hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. On occasions when the position acts as backup to the water treatment plant operator, the schedule will require 2+ hours on Saturday and Sunday for the purpose of inspecting the public water system and performing routine water testing.  Additional hours may be required as circumstances warrant.

COMPENSATION:

Current pay range is $24.58/hr. to $31.01/hr. Entry rate is contingent upon applicant’s skills, knowledge and abilities.
