On April 11, 2024 Carol Collins became the longest serving city employee in the history of Oakwood at 49 years, seven months and 23 days, and on August 19, 2024 Carol reaches the amazing 50-year milestone. Carol joined city staff on August 19, 1974 after graduating from The Ohio State University. She served as City Horticulturist from her hire date until March 30, 1998 when Carol was promoted to Leisure Services Director.
As Horticulturist, Carol was responsible for the public landscaping and public space beautification all around Oakwood, with primary emphasis on Smith Gardens. Upon being appointed Leisure Services Director, Carol retained responsibilities for overseeing Smith Gardens and all other horticulture work around the city, and also assumed responsibility for all recreation and leisure activities offered by the city, including community festivals and celebrations, public parks, natural areas, Gardner Memorial Pool, Old River Sports Complex and all the programs at the Oakwood Community Center.
