Utility Billing

Posted on November 8, 2024

The City of Oakwood uses an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) meter system for utility billing.  A small box, called a Meter Interface Unit (MIU), or transmitter, is installed on the interior or exterior of your house or business near your water meter. It is connected to your water meter and transmits a radio signal to a data collector.

The radio signal of a meter’s usage is received by the AMR software at various times throughout the month and is stored by the AMR data collector software.

The City usually bills around the 20th of each month for about a 28-day period.  Readings are pulled from the AMR software to the billing software two days prior to the billing date for each water meter.  The actual AMR transmitter meter reading may or may not be from that 2-day period.  Not every transmitter sends a reading daily as these are radio reads and can be interfered with because of a variety of issues: other radio transmissions, weather, or an item temporarily blocking the transmitter.

The utility bills state the billing date not the transmitter reading date.  The Utility Billing department ensures that the beginning read amount on the utility bills agrees to the prior month’s ending read amount to confirm the integrity of the billing.

Please contact the Utility Billing Department at (937) 298-0400 if you have a question regarding your usage and the dates of your transmitter readings.
