Far Hills Avenue (SR 48) Resurfacing

Posted on June 28, 2024

Construction work will begin on Monday, July 1 on the Far Hills Avenue Resurfacing project.  The project involves resurfacing the entire 2-mile length of Far Hills Avenue (SR 48) through Oakwood.  The project will take about three weeks to complete and includes milling of the existing asphalt pavement surface and placing a new asphalt roadway.  Prior to the milling operation, the contractor will perform roadway base repairs in select areas along the length of the project.

Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. was awarded the project which has a total estimated cost of $1.75 million.  The project is being managed by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), with 80% of the cost being paid by ODOT and 20% by the city of Oakwood.  Far Hills Avenue was last resurfaced in 2011.

Over the past three years, several construction projects were completed along Far Hills Avenue in advance of and in preparation for the roadway resurfacing.  This included extensive gas line replacement by CenterPoint Energy, installation of a $2.1 million storm sewer, water line repairs, stormwater inlet replacements along both sides of Far Hills Avenue, and roadway curb renewal.  It also includes removal of the RTA overhead trolley infrastructure, some of which remains to be done.

“We have worked hard over the past few years to prepare for this roadway improvement project and know that it will be well-received by our residents and all who use Far Hills Avenue”, said City Manager Norbert Klopsch.  “It is exciting to finally see the project unfold.”
